If you’ve ever tried to spec an off-grid electrical system — for a campervan, a boat, a shed — you’ll know the feeling. Hours of trawling forums, cross-referencing spec sheets, second-guessing cable sizes, and still not being completely sure it’s right. Or safe.
That’s the problem we set out to solve.
The gap in the market
There are plenty of places to buy solar panels and batteries online. What there isn’t — or wasn’t — is a single supplier who’ll design your complete system, spec every component, check it’s safe, and ship the whole lot in one box.
Most retailers sell you parts. We design you a system.
Why the design tool matters
At the heart of The Off Grid Shop is our system design tool. You tell it what you’re powering — your fridge, your lights, your laptop, your induction hob — and it calculates everything you need. Battery capacity, solar panel wattage, charge controller size, inverter rating, cable sizes, fuse ratings. The lot.
Then it produces a wiring schematic showing how everything connects, and adds every component to your basket in one click. One order, one delivery, nothing missing, everything compatible.
Every design is checked by our engineers before dispatch. Not because we don’t trust the tool — but because we take electrical safety seriously, and a second pair of eyes on every system is the right thing to do.
Safety isn’t optional
Scroll through any campervan Facebook group and you’ll see it — undersized cables, missing fuses, battery installations that would make an electrician wince. Some of these systems are genuinely dangerous.
Every system we design meets the same safety specification, regardless of budget. We don’t offer a “budget” tier with thinner cables or missing protection. The ANL fuse is in the kit. The cable is the right gauge. The fuse ratings match the circuit. Every time.
Victron Energy authorised dealer
We’re proud to be a Victron Energy authorised dealer. Victron make the best charge controllers, inverters, and monitoring equipment on the market — used in marine, automotive, and off-grid installations worldwide. Their SmartSolar MPPT range is the backbone of most systems we design.
We also develop our own range of components — batteries, solar panels, cables, and accessories — tested and quality-checked before they reach our shelves. Every own-brand product meets the same standards we’d expect from Victron.
What’s coming
We’re building this business properly — not rushing to launch with a half-finished website and a warehouse full of untested stock. Over the coming months you’ll see our Learning Centre fill up with educational guides, our product range expand, and the design tool go live.
If you’re planning a build and want to be among the first to try the design tool, keep an eye on this space. Or drop us a message — we’re always happy to talk off-grid.
